Lines & Wrinkles are a normal part of the aging process which starts as soon as we are born! As we age, our bodies continuously reduce the amount of collagen, elastin and growth factors needed to keep us looking young! Lines and Wrinkles are also made a lot worse but other contributory factors such as Smoking, Alcohol consumption, Poor Diet, Sun Damage, Failure to use a good quality daily SPF, even in during winter, pollution, Free-Radicals, and more.
Anti Wrinkle injections can be started early to prevent lines & Wrinkles, however there are more effective ways of prevention such as micro-needling, improving lifestyle choices, and wearing a daily SPF.
Anti- wrinkle injections known as Botox, is injected into the muscles on the face to reduce the movement of the muscles, which in turn reduces lines and wrinkles.
These injections as prescribed for our clients after a consultation and are considers very safe and effective.
Most people are safe to have these small injections which are delivered with tiny needles.
Microneedling is where we use a pen style device with sterile single use tiny needles on the end which puncture the skin to create microchannels into the skin. The skin is firstly numbed to make the procedure much more tolerable. The action of our bodies then healing these micro channels then releases a cascade of chemical changes, drastically increasing the amount of Collagen, Elastin and Growth Factors to thIs area of the skin and in turn, this improves lines and wrinkles by making the skin more plump and hydrated.
This can be done on a monthly basis. It is recommended a course of 6 is completed with intermittent maintenance treatments as and when required. This procedure can leave your face quite red and sometimes there is some mild bleeding. Skin can feel stinging or burning when cleansing skin for a few days after the procedure but is manageable. Skin can also feel tight and dry a few days after the procedure and can sometimes flake. Usually down time is 1-7 days. Flaking and tightening can last slightly longer. This procedure is usually very well tolerated and is very safe and effective.
Phototherapy is the use of light in the treatment of a condition.
The use of Red and Near infrared lights are well evidenced to stimulate our skin cells and increase the amount of Collagen and Elastin within our skin, which in turn plumps the skin and reduces the appearance of lines and wrinkles. Particular strengths of Near infrared and Red light therapy can improve overall skin complex and health. It works by stimulating cells through the Mitochondria (The power house of the cell). This action aids the cells to produce more adenosine triphosphate (ATP), which is the energy source for all cells. By improving cellular energy, cells repair themselves more quickly, and In turn overall skin health is improved.
Please remember, that it is particular strengths of specific wave lengths which have been well evidenced and researched which will cause improvements in the skin - NOT the cheap light masks which you can buy online. These are unlikely to have the correct evidence based wave lengths and also contain a multiple of other colours which have NO evidence to support that they work.
Here at SkinLab we have 2 Dermalux LED phototherapy devices which are Medically Licensed and CEA approved. These devices can be used as a single treatment, can be added onto another treatment to enhance results, and can be rented via our home rental scheme for a period of 2 weeks. If used as a standalone treatment, It is recommended it is used daily for at least 2 weeks to achieve improvements.

IPL which is Intensed Pulsed Light rays, are emitted through the skin layers. Specific colours of light, along with specific frequencies of light wave lengths are passed though the skin and in turn, this causes the skin to produce more Collagen, Elastin and Growth Factors in these area to reduce appearance of lines and wrinkles, tighten and plump the skin. A minimum of 6 sessions is required, and maintenance sessions maybe required dependant on severity of the lines and wrinkles and overall skin condition.. It is not possible to state how frequent or infrequent maintenance sessions maybe required as this will vary person to person.
IPL cannot be performed on Darker skin types and cannot be completed on tanned skin. Skin should return to an “untanned” state before IPL can be completed.
Here at SkinLab we use an NHS approved, Medically certified, Multi-Award Winning IPL Device.
It is recommended Medical Grade Skin care is used at home and can be purchased and prescribed via the clinic in order to help maintain results at home. IPL can also also be combined with a Tri-chemical Peel known as an Illumifacial to improve skin even further!
Specific chemical peels can be used to target the Dermis and Epidermis layers of skin which cause damage to the skin cells, and in turn encourage our bodies natural repair process to kick in to improve results. Chemical Peels are Suitable for most skin types.
They again stimulate more production of Collagen, Hyaluronic Acid, Elastin and Growth Factors whist removing dead, dull debris and skin cells..
Chemical peels can cause some mild stinging or burning and redness. Downtimes should be minimal and is unlikely to more than 2-7 days. Some superficial skin shedding can occur.
Chemical Peels each have a different interval gap between peels depending on the specific peel, and a course of peels is recommended. It would be recommended that Medical Grade skin care products are utilised alongside, which can be purchased via the clinic are utilised twice daily at home. These peels can also be used in conjunction with Dermalux LED phototherapy to reduce downtime and enhance the effects of the chemical peels.
Get the best skin of your life with our non-invasive Hydrafacial treatment. Hydrafacial improves skin health, addressing individual concerns, and creates a glow like no other. Unlike traditional facials, it’s performed via device rather than by hand, for deeper penetration and longer lasting results. The magic of the Hydrafacial is in the wand. The Wand works like a vacuum to open pores for a deep cleanse and easily extracts of impurities . It then also allows the active ingredients in our boosters to penetrate deeper, for a more effective & personalised treatment. The Hydrafacial deeply cleanses and exfoliates with a gentle chemical peel to uncover a new layer of skin. This is followed by extraction - here we removes impurities from pores with painless gentle suction. An optional personalised Skin-Booster can be added in at this stage to target your own specific skincare goals, in this case, to target lines & wrinkles. The Hydrafacial then hydrates the skin, saturating the skin’s surface with intense moisturisers, nourishing the skin with peptides, Hyaluronic acid, and other key ingredients to give you that gratifying glow. Results lasting approximately 4-6 weeks.
